About the Owner & Studio

Beth Wright, Owner and Operator of Claybird Studio, is a lover of all things clay. And birds. Hence…Claybird Studio. She has been making and selling pottery for over 15 years, and has been teaching for just about as long. From having a private home studio, to instructing kids, teen and adult classes, to private lessons, to being a middle and high school art and ceramics teacher and making and selling her own creations, there’s really no area of pottery that is unfamiliar to her. Beth graduated from Ramapo College with an Art degree in 2004, but it wasn’t until after graduating that she discovered her passion for ceramic arts. She started off as a studio assistant and apprentice at a privately owned studio in NJ where she and her family moved from in 2022. Over those years, she was mentored under two studio owners where she learned how to manage a pottery studio from top to bottom. From mixing glazes and loading kilns to recycling clay and teaching classes, it was a privilege to apprentice under the tutelage of two of New Jersey’s most talented and experienced potters. It was these many years of experience that has helped Beth fine tune her craft and understand the workings of a pottery studio. She has a deep passion for teaching and sharing the therapeutic benefits of pottery-making with others. Claybird Studio has been a 15 year dream in the making. Her goal in opening this space is to share her passion for clay and community with others, to foster an atmosphere of creative learning in a safe and inclusive environment, and to spark a sense of belonging and joy in everyone who walks through the doors.
