ADULT POTTERY CLASSES

Fall / Winter 2024

(ages HS & up)

WHEEL

(Beginner & Up)

Students will focus on using a potter’s wheel to make functional and decorative pottery such as cylinders, cups and bowls. Techniques such as centering, pulling, shaping and trimming will be taught. Those with wheel experience are welcome and can work more independently with assistance from the instructor as needed. No experience necessary.

Mon or Tues 6-8pm

WHEEL

(Intermediate & Up)

Students who are comfortable with the basics of the wheel such as centering, pulling, shaping and trimming will learn to hone in on these skills and take their pottery-making journey to the next level. Throwing with larger pieces of clay, making lidded vessels, and perfecting the handle are a few skills that we will explore in this Intermediate class. Beginner Wheel experience necessary.

Wed 6-8pm

HAND-BUILDING & WHEEL COMBO

(Beginner & Up)

Students will get an overall experience with clay as they learn to make pottery at a table using hand-building methods as well as sitting at a wheel throwing pottery, and can learn how to combine these methods to make decorative & functional wares. If a student prefers one method over the other, they are welcome to focus on either after learning the techniques of both. Hand-Building consists of the slab, coil and pinch methods while wheel-throwing consists of centering, pulling and shaping clay as it spins on a pottery wheel. No experience necessary.
